What is this?

Rosetta 2 was developed as software that would allow customers to use apps that were developed previously for Macs with Intel processors - like the Musicnotes Player for macOS app - to be able to run on Macs with Apple processors.

Starting with macOS 26.4, Apple began announcing the end of support for their Rosetta 2 software, as part of their longer-term transition plan to help migrate their customers from Apple computers with Intel processors to Apple computers with Apple silicon processors (M1, M2, etc.).

Apple's plan is to drop support for Rosetta 2 with macOS 28, which is expected to be released in Autumn 2027. The message displayed, starting in macOS 26.4, was:

This version of "Musicnotes Sheet Music Player" will not open in a future release of macOS. Learn how to update to an Apple silicon version.

At this time, Musicnotes does not have any plans to update the Musicnotes Player for macOS app for Apple processors.

Identifying your computer

• macOS Tahoe 26 is compatible with these computers - Apple Support 
  • Intel and Apple silicon computers
• macOS Golden Gate 27 is compatible with these computers - Apple Support
  • Apple silicon computers only (and going forward, macOS 28)

Intel processor & macOS 26

Apple computers with Intel processors will not be able to upgrade past macOS 26. This means users can continue to access their purchased Musicnotes digital sheet music using:

• the Musicnotes Sheet Music Player for macOS, or,

Apple silicon & macOS 27

Since Rosetta 2 will still be supported with macOS 27, Apple computers with Apple silicon and running macOS 27 will have a few options available for users to continue to access their purchased Musicnotes digital sheet music using:

• the Musicnotes Player for iOS app

• the Musicnotes Sheet Music Player for macOS, or,

Apple silicon & macOS 28

Since Rosetta 2 will have support dropped with macOS 28, Apple computers with Apple silicon and running macOS 28 will have a few options available for users to continue to access their purchased Musicnotes digital sheet music using:
